Anacapa Island is an experience not to be missed. The smallest of the Channel Islands, Anacapa is part of the Channel Islands National Park and National Marine Sanctuary. The boat ride from the mainland is only about an hour, and riders can pass the time watching dolphins frolic, while a bevy of seabirds look for handouts. After climbing 153 steps to the island's plateau, knowledgeable guides are often available to take visitors on hikes that vary from easy to challenging. Visitors will get bird's eye views of crystal clear waters and elephant seals basking on warm rocks while learning about the Island's diverse and unique habitat.
A variety of services are available including all day excursions, tidepool exploring, whale watching tours, and a three hour tour of the rugged north shores of Anacapa and Santa Cruz Island. Camping and school programs are also offered. For more information, call (805) 382-1779 or visit http://www.islandpackers.com. |
