"Tyee" comes from the coastal Native American language known as the Chinook Jargon, and was their word for biggest and best. Our setting in the trees above the ocean beach and its closeness to Yaquina Head inspire the name. Tyee Lodge's decor celebrates the "mighty tyee" or Chinook salmon, as well as other coastal features.

All six oceanfront rooms come equipped with a tree-framed view of the sand, surf, and horizon! Watch the waves from the easy chairs or from your queen sized bed. Open your window for fresh ocean air and the sound of the crashing surf. You can also enjoy the panoramic views from the sitting room and garden. Each room features a private bath with tub and shower. Enjoy a Jacuzzi tub out in the garden.

Breakfast is served family style in our ocean view dining room each morning at 9:00 a.m. We cater to special diets, and will provide breakfast in bed for special occasions. We serve a variety of dishes, and strive to make each breakfast unique. Throughout the day the beverage bar is available with hot beverages: coffee, teas, cocoas, and spiced cider. There is a small refrigerator stocked with sodas and wine, and plenty of room to store your snacks! A microwave is also available. We supply the popcorn!

Area Attractions and Activities:

Located at the north end of Newport city center, Tyee Lodge is just a few minutes from all of the attractions, including the Bayfront, Hatfield Marine Science Center, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, and Nye Beach historic oceanfront village.

Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area stands just north of Tyee Lodge, and offers tide pools and dramatic ocean views. You can tour the lighthouse, and in the winter you can watch the storm waves crash at your feet.

Activities and Attractions Include: Oregon Coast Aquarium, tide pools, lighthouse, beach trail, whale watching, aquarium, historic Bayfront harbor, birding, walking, hiking. Miles of beach.

Most Popular Rooms:

Chinook: Relax in front of your private fireplace and enjoy the panoramic ocean view. Located on the southwest corner, Chinook features a view down the beach strip, and west to the horizon. Tyee's signature decor, the Chinook salmon, is featured.

Alsea: Located on the northwest corner, the view from this picture window is to the headland rocks and tide pools, as well as the beach. Pacific Shorebirds are featured in art and books.
