    Area Attractions and Activities:

Ipswich is the center of the Essex National Heritage Area, one of twenty-four nationally designated regions of cultural and natural significance. Settled in 1630, Ipswich boasts the US's largest assemblage of pre-1724 houses, with 58 houses still standing. Nearby Essex is famous for its 300-years of shipbuilding and clam harvesting and is an antique shopper's paradise.

Just north is Newburyport, a charming seaport with Federal mansions, locally owned shops and restaurants. South of the Crane Estate is historic Cape Ann, where the region's fishing tradition lives on in Gloucester, site of the movie The Perfect Storm. A short drive away is Salem, with the Peabody Essex Museum and other landmarks that tell the story of the city's 17th century witch trials and its later prosperity in maritime trade.

Just beyond are Boston and Cambridge-so much to do and see!
