Hacienda Tamarindo
Vieques Island, Puerto Rico.
"Extraordinary small hotel...the nicest place to stay on Vieques" -Fodor's. Spectacular Caribbean views, 16 charming rooms decorated with art, antiques & collectibles. Gorgeous gardenside pool. Breakfast awarded best for all Puerto Rican small hotels.
Bed and Breakfast Description

The Hacienda Tamarindo was included in the acclaimed new travel guide, "1,000 Places to see before you die". We are proud to be one of only three hotels in all of Puerto Rico to be listed.
Perched on a hilltop blessed with cooling trade winds, offering spectacular 180º Caribbean views. Vieques's only B&B hotel, this intimate getaway was lovingly and creatively designed and decorated by owner Linda Vail (an escapee from the hectic pace of Vermont!) - her swan song after 15 years as a commercial interior designer.
Lazy ceiling fans in all rooms (as well as air conditioning) cast moving shadows on a lifetime's accumulation of art, antiques and collectibles. An ancient tamarind tree in the atrium lobby majestically rises three stories through the center of the building. Terraces, courtyards and hammocked gardens offer ample space for relaxation.
Stroll through the mahogany trees to the most beautiful pool on the island. Located on the Caribbean side of Vieques Island, in the heart of the Spanish Virgins. The friendliest staff on the island pampers you with a beautiful American breakfast served under the Tamarind tree.
Area Attractions and Activities:
Best bioluminescent bay tours in the world. There are no hotels on the Caribbean beaches of Vieques. Indeed, there is nothing located on the beaches! Not a beach bar, not a T-shirt shop, and not a souvenir stand - just palm trees and sea grapes shading soft, white sand that runs to the crystal clear waters.
The beaches are scattered over the island. The closest to us (5 minutes by jeep) is the beautiful Sun Bay (great for walking). Just beyond that is Media Luna (calm and shallow), then Navio (the ultimate body surfing). Punta Arenas, on the western end of the island, offers wonderful snorkeling close to the shore. A reserve, you can walk the shore for miles.
And now, hot off the press: the entire Eastern end of the island, over 15,000 acres, has been turned over to the U.S. Department of Fish & Wildlife and is now the largest Wildlife Reserve in the Caribbean. It's home to some of the most spectacular beaches in the Caribbean, such as Blue, Garcia and Red Beach.
