![]() Built around 1870 in one of the first garden suburbs of Boston, a landmark historic property in the Ashmont section of Dorchester. Our property is featured in 3 books on local history. With the Big Dig underway, who wants to drive? Our transit system, called the MBTA or "T", is an economical alternative to struggling with downtown traffic. We are a very convenient 5 minute walk to the Red Line's Ashmont T Station. Downtown Boston is a 10-15 minute ride from Ashmont, Harvard Square is 25 minutes, and the fare is US$1.25 each way. We have limited off-street parking on a first-come-first served basis, but parking is available on-street as well. I generally ask everyone who's interested in booking if they have been to a private home B&B before... Coming to Carruth House is like visiting family (perhaps your eccentric aunt!). We are alternative, affordable, and believe that life is too short not to bring joy into the world. The first floor Ashmont Suite unit consists of 2 connecting rooms with private bath with shower, and can be set up as a sitting room and bedroom or as 2 bedrooms; the sitting room has a queen size sofa bed, a day bed and tavern table for dining or working. The suite has a private entrance from the front covered porch, and a fireplace. There are three light and airy bedrooms situated at treetop level on the third floor. The rooms share a large bathroom with a whirlpool tub and an open sitting room at the top of the open three story staircase. Area Attractions and Activities: Boston attractions: Museums, historical sites, architecture, parks and gardens, sports events, theater, convention centers, hospitals, many music venues, excellent dining, colleges and universities, beaches, ocean cruises and much more. Services: Fireplaces, antiques, double hammock, common room, pool table, satellite TV, VHS/DVD/CD library Most Popular Rooms: The Ashmont Suite: 2 connecting rooms with a separate entry from the front porch. Has a working fireplace with beautiful mahogany mantelpiece, and an eclectic mix of antique and traditional furnishings including an antique carved four poster double bed. Common areas for all to enjoy include the covered front porch, spacious back deck with a hammock for relaxing in the sun, and the extraordinary Great Room with large-screen TV, huge fireplace, pool table, and games. |
