Bed and Breakfast Description

Hilo, Hawaii bed and breakfast: Maureen's B&B

Known to locals as the Saiki Mansion (built in 1932 and named after its original owner) our fully restored home has a baronial ambiance that befits an "aloha" experience. A rich blend of redwood and cedar line the 30-foot vaulted living room ceiling, walls, double staircases and wraparound balcony.

The Japanese Tea Room is elegant in cherry wood. Antique furnishings made of koa (a precious wood native to Hawaii) as well as mahogany and oak, add to the luxury of silk paintings and tapestries. You can enjoy TV in the family room or the stereo in the great room. The koi ponds or botanical gardens with fragrant flowers and colorful plants can be enjoyed from our front or rear lanais. And across the street, a beach park offers swimming and snorkeling.

Our guest bedrooms have semiprivate baths. Two very large upstairs rooms have king size beds and boast mountain views of Mauna Kea. Two adjoining single rooms are just off the balcony. Our downstairs rooms are bright and cheery, and offer the relaxing sounds of ocean surf.

    Area Attractions and Activities:

Hilo, the home of the Merry Monarch Hula Festival, the statewide ancient and modern Hula competition, feels like a step back in time. Back to when the lives of the native Hawaiians were controlled by the forces of nature, and turned to interpreting the unexplainable by creating myths and legends. Many of these stories, told for hundreds of years center on the physical landmarks that can still be found in the Hilo area.

Beaches, beaches, beaches! Maureen's Bed and Breakfast is just a short walk from Hilo's finest beaches. Swim, snorkel or sun, then freshen up for an evening at one of Hilo's restaurants, just minutes away by car or taxi.

The Big Island offers much more! Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, with the world's most active volcano, Kilauea, is a 45 minute drive away. The park features beautiful tropical fern forests, barren desert and flowing lava.
