The Village of Salado was founded at the Old Military Road crossing of Salado Creek on October 8, 1859. In 1884, Salado boasted 7 churches, 14 stores, 2 hotels, 2 blacksmiths, and 3 cotton gins. Eighteen of the old buildings here are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and Salado has 23 Texas Historical Markers.

The Chisholm Trail came right up Main St. The many shops catering to visitors have led to the popularity of Salado. Today Salado's Main Street and vicinity is a lively marketplace with over 60 shops and artists’ galleries. You'll find treasures, whether you're in the mood for fine art, antiques, pottery, crafts, collectibles, handcrafted furniture, fashion or gourmet foods.

From golf, fishing, leisurely walks, to carriage rides, Salado blossoms with fun things to do and see. In the heart of Wildflower country, Salado is only minutes from two beautifully clear lakes that offer scenic drives through the countryside and perfect places to watch the sunset.
