![]() Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the main house sits on a flat area of a bluff surrounded by rolling wooded terrain with fantastic views of the river and the two bridges connecting Mississippi with Louisiana. The view from the observation point extends many miles up and down the river and over the flat lands of Louisiana. There are 19 acres of gardens that have been personally designed, created and developed by the owners since 1975. Guests roam a varied terrain of brick walks, boardwalks, gazebos and ponds with frequent views of the river and garden ornaments and statuary. There is rarely a time when flowers are not in bloom among the ancient pecan trees, live oaks and magnolias --- including thousands of daffodils, over 1200 azaleas, roses, camelias, flowering trees, hydrangeas, day lilies, annuals and tropical plants, and many others. The elegant antique-filled home and dependency buildings contain 15 spacious bedrooms, each with private bath. Suites are available, with one or two bedrooms, each with king-size bed and private bath, a forty-foot living room with fireplace, kitchen, bar area, and a screened porch overlooking the gardens below. Guests at The Briars can relax in the peaceful ambience of the parlor, drawing room or veranda anytime they choose. Area Attractions and Activities: Play golf or try the corn maze. Discover Natchez history from Indian days to slavery and war. See the photographs, stand on historic sites, and contemplate the graves of history makers. Canal St. From the cypress swamp and pillared portico of the Melrose mansion to the stately downtown home of William Johnson, Natchez National Historical Park offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the antebellum South. The park is open year-round. Explore the Natchez Trace, a 444-mi National Scenic Byway and All-American Road that stretches from the Mississippi River in Natchez through the Shoals area in Alabama and across the Tennessee Valley with interesting attractions and unique special events.
