Choose from one of five historic, rustic, authentic log cabins, tastefully restored with modern amenities. Each cabin is unique with walnut, cherry, oak and chestnut logs, heating & AC, custom kitchens, bathrooms, often with claw-foot tubs and shower.

Bed and Breakfast Description

Authentic, rustic log cabins, 1-2.5 bedrooms, from the Shenandoah Valley date from 1775 to early 1900's. The fireplaces (3) are of stone or hand made bricks. Each cabin has an intriguing array of porches, decks, loft hideaways, queen sized beds, modern amenities and baths. All have heat and air conditioning. Each cabin is wonderfully unique.

Get away for the weekend, vacation for a week, or retreat for a month… South River Highlands has it all. Come for your honeymoon or anniversary, to relax & change your hectic pace of living or to commune with nature.

We can host small weddings, renewal vows, business meetings, spiritual gatherings, small family reunions or artistic retreats. The quiet natural country setting will renew and inspire you.

'The Highlands' is a Creative & Wholistic Retreat & nature preserve. It is being managed to encourage the mix of trees and meadows that will support the widest diversity of plants and animals.

If you wish a touch of civilization, shopping, fine dining, art, museums and culture, nearby Lexington has it all. Area attractions include two of the shrines of the Confederacy - both Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee are buried here. You may wish to visit their memorials at Lee Chapel on the campus of Washington and Lee University or in the historic cemetery shared by over 75 Confederate soldiers.

With 3 colleges in the area Washington and Lee University, Virginia Military Institute and Southern Virginia University there is an extensive menu of cultural events year round. For horse lovers, a trip to the Virginia Horse Center is particularly rewarding and summer brings a weekend program of music or theater to our Lime Kiln Theater outdoors.
