Bed and Breakfast Description

La Plaza Inn, built in 1907, was originally known as the Oxford Hotel with a reputation of being one of the Rockies' finest hotels. Many years ago when Spaniards situated themselves in what is now known as Walsenburg, they named their settlement La Plaza de los Leones, or "the village of the lions". In honor of those who came before, owner and host Martie Henderson christened the former hotel La Plaza and once again offers fine accommodations and gracious hospitality.
La Plaza offers eleven guest rooms, all with private baths. Each room is decorated in a different theme from southwestern to Victorian. From the alluring lavender and lace of the Bridal Suite to one of the family suites with full kitchens, you're sure to find all choices uniquely charming. Many of the furnishings and decorative pieces came from Martie's own home.
La Plaza offers a full hot breakfast to guests served in the La Plaza Cafe & Bookstore where you can browse through over 5,000 titles.
La Plaza maintains a large meeting room for banquets, wedding receptions, meetings, seminars, corporate think-tanks and family reunions.
Golf enthusiasts will clamor to play the links at the nearby Grandote Golf Course, a Tom Weiskopff championship course. Lathrop State Park, located just three miles west of Walsenburg, offers over 1,100 acres of adventure including hiking, biking, boating, fishing, wind surfing, water skiing and a fabulous 9-hole golf course.
Area Attractions and Activities:
In Walsenburg, enjoy wonderful restaurants, shops, and the many festivals throughout the year. The town is perfectly situated at the northern entrance to Colorado's famous Scenic Highway of Legends.

The scenic route then follows the Cuchara river through the mountains past the Cuchara ski area, over the 9,994-foot Cuchara Pass, past a couple of crystal-clear mountain water lakes and through the charming towns of Stonewall, Weston, Segundo and Trinidad.
