The Mercersburg Inn

Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.

A stately, 20,000 sq ft Georgian mansion on 5 acres of terraced lawns. Once the private residence of Ione & Harry Byron, the home is now a 17 guestroom country inn.

Bed and Breakfast Description

Mercersburg, Pennsylvania bed and breakfast: The Mercersburg Inn

Welcome to a most extraordinary Pennsylvania bed and breakfast experience: the Mercersburg Inn.

Enjoy the magnificent surroundings of a turn-of-the-century Georgian mansion, while feeling as comfortable and relaxed as you would in your own home. During your stay, notice the quality work and attention to detail throughout the elegant brick mansion. Decorative tile, oak flooring, double-curving wrought-iron balustrades, scagliola columns, and mahogany and chestnut paneling are all original to the house.

Lisa and Jim McCoy left the corporate world in Manhattan and took ownership of the Mercersburg Inn in May of 2004. They live in the Inn and are involved in the daily operation.

Great Room: Assemble a puzzle or challenge a friend to a game of backgammon. Enjoy complimentary tea and scones on weekend afternoons.

Solarium: Order from our host bar and curl up in front of a crackling fire. This light-filled conservatory is a wonderful place to gather and chat.

Game Room: Play a game of pool, tinkle away on the ivories, or watch a little television. Doubling as a library, this oversized den offers a range of reading materials from novels and nonfiction books to an extensive collection of magazines.

West Porch: Delight in the panoramic view of our beautiful gardens. Chat with friends over mint-laced iced tea, or simply seek quiet solitude on a summer’s day.

Area Attractions and Activities:

Weekend Cooking Classes: Cook in the country with world-renowned chef Francois Dionot of the celebrated L’Academie de Cuisine.

Skiing: Less than a 10-minute drive from the inn is Whitetail (717-328-9400) — the best ski resort in the Mid-Atlantic.

Golfing: Tee off at your choice of three 18-hole championship golf courses — all less than 15 minutes away.

Historical Walks: Home to the acclaimed Mercersburg Academy and the site of many Civil War battles, Mercersburg is a picturesque town with lovely, preserved homes and business structures dating back 250 years.

Hiking: Cowans Gap State Park (717-485-3948) has hiking trails, a lake with a beach area for swimming, paddle and row boat rentals, fishing, and a concession stand.
