The Buckhorn Inn has been a landmark since 1811, serving originally as a stage coach stop through the turn of the 20th century, then it was called the Dudley House. Through out that era and into the 1920's it was also a tavern and home to high class gambling and dancing. Healthy fresh mountain air and famous spas in Warm and Hot Springs attracted travelers from big cities and coastal areas.

In 1854, Thomas Jackson (later to become Stonewall) and his wife were overnight guests of the Buckhorn. In 1862, after the Civil War Battle of McDowell, many of the wounded were cared for in the Buckhorn.

In 1977 It was converted into a Bed & Breakfast and buffet style restaurant, quickly becoming the place to take the family to for a night out.
