Mayhurst Inn

Orange, Virginia.

We invite you to relax in the grandeur of history when Southern life was slower and more gracious. This marvelously preserved and restored plantation home c. 1859 can transport you to a romantic time far away from today's stresses. The perfect getaway.

Bed and Breakfast Description

Orange, Virginia bed and breakfast: Mayhurst Inn

A majestic 9200 sq. ft. plantation manor house on 37 acres of gardens, lawns, field and old growth forest. Mayhurst is a National Registry of Historic Places property and a Virginia Landmark. Mayhurst is also a featured historical property on the "Journey Through Hallowed Ground." One of General A. P. Hill’s daughters, Lucy Lee Hill, was baptized at Mayhurst. Her Godfather, General Lee, held her in his arms throughout the ceremony on May 1, 1864. A Giclee print of the scene, entitled "Tender is the Heart," painted by renowned artist, Mort Kunstler, hangs in the parlor where the ceremony took place.

This magnificent and rare Italianate Victorian gem is remarkable for its fanciful, exuberant architecture and oval-spiral staircase ascending four floors. Three parlors and an extensive spacious library invite you to relax in front of the fire.

Fill your senses with the stunning beauty of the rolling hills of central Virginia, and wander our 37 acres of 200-year old trees, where Confederate soldiers camped when Mayhurst was headquarters for Corps III of Army of Northern Virginia. View the old summer kitchen, smokehouse and schoolhouse. Sample the restorative calm of our hammock, sit by the pond, listen to the bird songs, and enjoy vintage music.

Afternoon refreshments,& full plantation breakfasts of baked breads and muffins, juices, individual fruit plates and rotating entree course. Special diets can be accommodated. True Southern Hospitality awaits our guests.
